Tanya MoberlyDon’t Tell Mama
New York, NY
CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE #051202 – Monday, December 5, 2005The ENCORE show ended at about 8:15 pm, so I had to scurry a little to get to DON’T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC – 1-212-787-0788 – www.donttellmama.com) to catch the amazing Tanya Moberly and her one-night-only show at 8:30 pm. Ms. Moberly’s show was another flawless performance, an elegant presentation of songs sung from the heart. There is hardly anyone else on the NYC cabaret scene that can capture the essence of a song as well as Tanya, and every show she presents does not fail to touch my inner soul. Imagine being moved by the piano bar classic “Somewhere That’s Green.” Ms. Moberly moved the room – and herself – nearly to tears. She was joined on stage for one song and off stage for another by her friend Susan Hackett (they were paired in a classically funny show about blondes a few years back, also at MAMA’S) and the two voices blended to perfection. Ms. Moberly’s clear, crisp vocals and total emersion in the feelings of each song made the evening a near-spiritual experience. Direction was by Michael Schiralli and precise musical direction was by Mary Feinsinger.
